The concept of Blossom on Butterfly Wings started in 2004 when Janice Smith began creating personal care packages for young girls who began their menstrual cycles. The care packages were a tool to introduce them into womanhood, as well as alleviate any concerns or fears they had. This allowed Ms. Smith to communicate and encourage them to no longer see themselves as girls, but begin the process of becoming a lady, full of respect, self worth, and beauty.

Ms. Smith has always been concerned about the plight of young girls and often shared her experiences to encourage young ladies to make sound decisions and not risky mistakes that many women make.

While attending a health fair, Ms. Smith met a young girl who was upset because of a poor body image. "I was touched that a 9 year old was so concerned about the way she looked to the point that she even dreaded attending sleepovers or pool parties. This caused me to reflect on my childhood. I realized that many issues I experienced in my teenage years, I struggled with them even as an adult. I decided then that I would do my part in assisting these young girls to love themselves." Blossom on Butterfly Wings was created.

Adolescence is such a critical time for young girls. Along with the collaborative effort of the community and its leaders, Blossom on Butterfly Wings is committed to embracing young ladies with hopes to give them a healthy foundation to live a life of self worth and respect.
